European Criminal Record Information System

The European Criminal Record Information System (ECRIS) was created based on the frame decision no. 2009/315/IB of the Commission to achieve an efficient exchange of information on criminal convictions between EU countries and to help storing information.

ECRIS is based on a decentralized IT architecture: criminal records data is stored solely in national databases and exchanged electronically between the central authorities of EU countries upon request and hereby ensures a high level of security and calculability to EU citizens.

Criminal Records Authority

By the law no. XLVII. of 2009 on criminal conviction records of Hungarian citizens in any EU country and also on criminal and law enforcement biometric data records in Hungary the Criminal Register Authority (as criminal records organ) has been appointed to execute this task.
